God’s Eyes Search the Hearts of All (Job 7)
August 29, 2025
“What is man, that you make so much of him, and that you set your heart on him, visit him every morning and test him every moment??” (Job 7:17–18)
When we consider the vastness of the universe, humanity seems so small, so fragile. And yet, God watches over us—these humble beings—with unwavering attention. In His eyes, we are precious. He sets His heart on us, examines us, and tests us daily.
“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3)
There’s a children’s song called “What Am I Doing?” It reminds us that no matter what we do, say, see, or think—God is watching. Just as police use surveillance cameras to track criminals, and some try to find blind spots to avoid detection, we must remember: there are no blind spots with God. His gaze is everywhere. Everything is laid bare before Him—our thoughts, our actions, our motives. Nothing can be hidden.
“How long will you not look away from me nor leave me alone till I swallow my spit? If I sin, what do I do to you, you watcher of mankind? Why have you made me your mark? Why have I become a burden to you?” (Job 7:19–20)
Job understood how small we are. He knew God sees all. He longed to draw near to God, yet couldn’t grasp His ways. Why would God examine us so closely, especially when He seems silent in our suffering? Job wished God would turn His face away, just for a moment, so he could breathe. But even in that cry, we see the truth: God’s watchfulness is not harsh or punitive. It is filled with justice, mercy, and love. He values each of us deeply.
So let us remember who we are—children of God. In a world that resists Him, we must ask: How should we live to be blameless before Him? This is a question worth pondering, and a path worth learning.
May we follow David’s prayer, seeking God daily:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!" (Psalm 139:23–24)
