Preach the Gospel for the Lord(Isaiah 42)
June 3, 2026
“Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
My chosen one in whom My soul delights.
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry out nor raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street.
A bent reed He will not break off
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth justice.” (Isaiah 42:1–3, NASB 2020)
In this chapter, the prophet Isaiah prophesies the coming of the Savior Jesus and His work. This prophecy has already been fulfilled and is recorded in Matthew 12:18–21. The Lord Jesus came into the world as a servant and brought the gospel to the Gentiles—that is, to people other than the chosen people of Israel. Most of those who accepted Him were empty in spirit and weak in body, yet Jesus, the true God, did not reject them. Instead, He opened their spiritual eyes and ears, leading them to walk in the way of life. This way of life is the truth of the Bible, which must be preached to all people in the world, so that everyone may have the opportunity to repent and be saved.
“I am the Lord, that is My name;
I will not give My glory to another.”
(Isaiah 42:8, NASB 2020)
The God we trust in is the one true God. People of other faiths may think that our belief is arrogant, but this is what Jesus said (see Mark 12:29). Regarding the name “Jehovah,” some may feel confused. According to Acts 4:12, the true God has given only one name by which we can be saved, and that name is Jesus. Then why does Isaiah 42:8 say that the Lord is His name? The reason is that in the Old Testament period, God had not yet accomplished salvation through Jesus Christ. Therefore, when Moses asked God for His name, God answered that He is the One who is. In written form, this was “YHWH”, made up of consonants that could not be pronounced. Later, Jewish scholars added vowels to it, and it eventually developed into “Jehovah.” Therefore, this is a title, not a personal name.
“Who is blind but My servant,
Or so deaf as My messenger whom I send?
Who is so blind as one who is at peace with Me,
Or so blind as the servant of the Lord?
You have seen many things, but you do not retain them;
Your ears are open, but no one hears.” (Isaiah 42:19–20, NASB 2020)
The Israelites were the people chosen by God. However, because they refused to walk in God’s way and would not listen to His instruction, they became spiritually blind and deaf. Most of us were originally not God’s chosen people. It is because of God’s mercy and election that we have become spiritually alive through the salvation of the Lord Jesus. I believe none of us wants to become blind and deaf again. In order to maintain spiritual sensitivity, we need to read the Bible daily, allowing God’s word to correct our steps, so that we may walk on the right path, not turning to the right or to the left, and become people who are pleasing to God.
Jesus loves the world, gave His life for the world, and opened the door of grace for salvation. Time is limited—what are you still waiting for?
Christians who have already tasted the goodness of the Lord, rise up quickly and follow in the footsteps of the Lord Jesus. Preach the correct gospel!
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed, “(Luke 4:18, NASB 2020)
