The God Who Created Me Is My God (Isaiah 44)
創造我的乃是我的神
June 5, 2026
Those who fashion an idol are all futile, and their treasured things are of no benefit; even their own witnesses fail to see or know, so that they will be put to shame. Who has fashioned a god or cast an idol to no benefit? Behold, all his companions will be put to shame, for the craftsmen themselves are mere men. Let them all assemble themselves, let them stand up, let them tremble, let them be put to shame together.
(Isaiah 44:9-11 NASB2020)
Idol worship remains a common phenomenon in Taiwan. Traditional religion has become deeply intertwined with Chinese Folk Religion. Many believers in our church once followed these traditional faiths as well. Yet through different life experiences—such as searching through countless temples and deities without finding true peace—they eventually discovered that where human efforts come to an end, God’s work begins.
They entered the True Jesus Church and came to know the true God who created the heavens, the earth, and all things, and who holds human life in His hands.
Their idols are silver and gold, The work of human hands. They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see; They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell; They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat. Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.
(Psalm 115:4-8 NASB2020)
In the New Testament era, Paul was deeply troubled when he saw that Athens was full of idols. Later, he was given the opportunity to introduce the true God to the people at the Areopagus:
The God who made the world and everything that is in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made by hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might feel around for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
(Acts 17:24-27 NASB2020)
Idols are merely false gods made by human hands. In contrast, the true God is the One who created mankind, gives life, and sustains us through all things.
This is what the Lord says, He who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Do not fear, Jacob My servant, And Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
(Isaiah 44:2 NASB2020)
Over the past six months, I have endured the greatest and longest period of illness in my life, along with unprecedented physical and emotional suffering. One day, while listening to the hymn "God’s Grace" was moved to tears. The lyrics say:
“The One who created me and called me is my God. The person I am today is all because of God’s grace… Let me embrace that cross… Boundless and unrepayable grace surrounds me; it is God’s abundant grace…”
Our relationship with God is meant to be as intimate as that of a child with his father. Yet as our minds become increasingly influenced by the world around us, our hearts gradually drift farther away from our Heavenly Father, the One who created us.We begin to believe that human determination can overcome everything and that our lives are entirely under our own control. Only when our health slowly slips away do we realize how little control we truly have—even over our own bodies. As Job said, “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.”
For more than fifty years, I was able to live independently without palpitations, chest tightness, dizziness, or other physical discomforts. I could work, travel, attend services, and go about daily life freely. But did I truly thank God for these blessings? Or did I simply assume they were natural and deserved? Did I begin to think that everything I lacked was somehow owed to me by God?
Perhaps we should pause and examine whether our eyes have been blinded by the false gods of this world, causing us to lose sight of the Father who created us.
“Remember these things, Jacob, And Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant, Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me. “I have wiped out your wrongdoings like a thick cloud And your sins like a heavy mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” Shout for joy, you heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout joyfully, you lower parts of the earth; Break into a shout of jubilation, you mountains, Forest, and every tree in it; For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And in Israel He shows His glory. This is what the Lord says, He who is your Redeemer, and the One who formed you from the womb: “I, the Lord, am the Maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself And spreading out the earth alone,
(Isaiah 44:21-24 NASB2020)
As we busy ourselves pursuing the material things of this world, may we never lose sight of God’s grace. As the hymn "God’s Grace" states:
“Without hesitation I walk upon that path; the One who strengthens my faith is God’s grace.”
May we continually remember that the God who created us, called us, redeemed us, and sustains us is still watching over us today through His abundant grace.
