Fear the Lord and Listen to His Servant’s Words (Isaiah 50)
June 11, 2026
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Where is the certificate of divorce by which I sent your mother away? Or to whom of My creditors did I sell you? Behold, you were sold for your wrongdoings, and your mother was sent away for your offenses.’”
(Isaiah 50:1)
The people of Israel complained that God had abandoned them, allowing them to be taken captive into foreign lands. Yet through the prophet’s mouth, God comforted this rebellious people in advance, He had never forsaken them. Their captivity was the result of their own transgressions. God had stretched out His arm to call and redeem them, but no one responded. Even now, thousands of years later, the truth has not changed, only human hearts remain weak and changeable. Because of false teachings spread according to human desires, the truth preached by the early apostolic church was disregarded, and the Holy Spirit ceased to descend. But God is faithful. Though He was silent, He never departed. Before the end times, He once again sends the latter rain of the Holy Spirit, fulfilling the words spoken repeatedly through the prophets across the ages.
“Who is among you who fears the Lord, who obeys the voice of His servant, who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.”
(Isaiah 50:10)
Human wisdom, compared to God’s, is as insignificant as a drop in the ocean. Life is short, like walking through a wilderness in darkness, never knowing what lies ahead. The only reliance is God’s salvation, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the handbook of life—the Bible. Everything must be built upon obedience and faith.
“Through whom we also have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we celebrate in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
(Romans 5:2–5)
God, the Creator of the universe, knows all things about humanity—our weaknesses and our strengths. Therefore, He allows trials and fiery tests. When we endure temptation and face our weaknesses in suffering, faith is born through waiting upon God. Just as fire removes impurities to refine pure gold, so trials shape us into vessels of honor—gold and silver instruments precious in God’s hand. Thus, when we encounter painful refinements, we must remind ourselves: once this trial is overcome, we will draw closer to God.
“Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the Law which My servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may achieve success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will achieve success.”
(Joshua 1:7–8)
