Continually Meditating on the Lord’s Grace and Living for Him (Isaiah 53)
June 14, 2026
Yet the LORD was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
He will see His offspring,
He will prolong His days,
And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
As a result of the anguish of His soul,
He will see it and be satisfied;
By His knowledge the Righteous One,
My Servant, will justify the many,
As He will bear their iniquities. (Isaiah 53:10–11, NASB 2020)
This chapter continues from Isaiah 52:13–15 and is the fourth Servant Song of the LORD. It describes Christ’s suffering and His atoning death, becoming the ransom for many. It is like what is written in John 12:24:
“Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (NASB 2020)
Because of Jesus’ death, the foundation of salvation for all people was established.
Jesus died for us and accomplished the salvation of the cross. This is a truth every Christian clearly knows and understands. Recently, the writer has often felt physically and mentally exhausted, overwhelmed by life and work. Even Bible reading and prayer were sometimes done speedly because of physical weariness. Yet when reading this chapter, the writer deeply felt unworthy of such great love, while also feeling so blessed to have been chosen by God.Compared with the suffering Jesus endured for us, the difficulties we face today are truly nothing. Moreover, we have God’s promise that His grace is sufficient. The sufferings we experience are simply God refining us like gold, in order that we may enter the glorious heavenly kingdom.
When we become weary and exhausted in life, let us think of the love of Jesus, who sacrificed Himself as the ransom for us. How can we disappoint such great love? The Lord redeemed us from sin with His own life. Therefore, we must not let sin reign in our bodies so that we obey its lusts. Neither should we present our body parts to sin as instruments of unrighteousness. Instead, like those alive from the dead, we should present ourselves to God and present our body parts as instruments of righteousness to God (cf. Romans 6:12–13).We ought to resolve to live for the Lord:
“And He died for all, so that they who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose on their behalf.” (2 Corinthians 5:15, NASB 2020)
May we deeply experience the love of Christ, and through this love be encouraged to walk continually in the Lord’s way. May this love also become the remedy for the pressures we bear in life.
“And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5, NASB 2020) May the Holy Spirit fill us, so that this love may continually be poured into our hearts at all times.
