The Glorious and Beautiful Church (Isaiah 54)
June 15, 2026
"O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted,
Behold, I will set your stones in antimony,
And your foundations I will lay in sapphires.
Moreover, I will make your battlements of rubies,
And your gates of crystal,
And your entire wall of precious stones."
(Isaiah 54:11–12, NASB)
Isaiah chapters 52–54 reveal the restoration of the kingdom of God, with Christ, the Servant of God, as the pattern and example. We are to follow His self-sacrifice and become a ransom for many, so that the relationship between God and mankind may be restored. At that time, the kingdom of God will become a universal kingdom — the church of God.
The glorious and beautiful church is founded upon sapphires. Sapphire reflects the image of God’s throne (cf. Ezekiel 1:26), clear like the heavens themselves (cf. Exodus 24:10). God lays its foundation with precious and radiant stones, signifying that in the New Testament era, the church has Jesus as the cornerstone and the apostles as its foundation. Church leaders must establish the church firmly upon this foundation. If one serves with a self-righteous attitude, many problems will arise, and the church can never become a glorious and beautiful church.
Secondly, the glorious and beautiful church has walls made of rubies. Rubies represent God’s redemption, reminding His people that they are saved by the price of precious blood. The adornment of rubies describes the true church of God as radiant, majestic, holy, strong, and secure. This beauty is spiritual beauty, not outward material splendor.
Furthermore, the glorious and beautiful church has gates made of crystal. This represents Christ suffering and shedding His blood to become the gate through which we enter the kingdom of heaven (cf. Hebrews 10:19–20). Therefore, the church must never neglect the way of baptism, which is the entrance into salvation.
Lastly, the outer borders are adorned with precious stones. The walls of the city are decorated with beautiful jewels, representing the importance of fellowship within the church. Brothers and sisters should live together in harmony. Even those who may seem weak or flawed are still given precious value by God.
"For you will spread out to the right and to the left.
And your descendants will possess nations
And will resettle the desolate cities."
(Isaiah 54:3, NASB 2020)
The people of God will greatly increase, and their former dwelling place will no longer be able to contain them. This shows how rapidly the kingdom of God will expand. Such prophecy was only partially fulfilled in the return of the Old Testament chosen people. Its complete fulfillment awaits the development of the true church before the Lord’s return, when this prophecy of “possessing nations” shall surely be fulfilled.Today, according to the International Assembly records of the True Jesus Church, the gospel has already spread to 74 countries. We pray that among all 195 countries of the world, every nation may one day have a True Jesus Church. Amen!
"The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former," says the LORD of armies, "and in this place I will give peace."
(Haggai 2:9, NASB 2020)
