The Everlasting Light (Isaiah 60)
June 21, 2026
“No longer will the sun be your light by day, nor will the moon give you light for brightness; but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” (Isaiah 60:19, NASB 2020)
Isaiah 60 is full of glory and hope. At that time, the people of Israel had experienced exile, scattering, and desolation. Yet God promised that His glory would still appear, His chosen people would be gathered again, and the nations would come to seek His light. The chapter begins by saying that “darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples,” but God calls His people to arise and shine, because His light has come.
As I read this chapter, I am reminded that my feelings are often influenced by circumstances. When things go well, my faith seems stronger. But when I face setbacks or cannot see the results I hope for, I easily become discouraged and disappointed. I may even try to solve problems by my own strength instead of allowing God's light to guide me.
“God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5, NASB 2020)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105, NASB 2020)
Human strength is limited, and circumstances are constantly changing, but God's promises never change.God may not show us the entire road at once, but His word always gives light for the next step before us. When we turn our eyes away from our circumstances and toward God, we come to understand that true peace does not come from having everything go smoothly, but from knowing that His true light will continue to lead us.
May we not focus on the difficulties before us, but always remember that God is the true source of light in our lives. Because He is the everlasting light, no matter what situation we are in, we can find direction and hope in His light, trusting that He will lead us forward according to His will.
“For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” (Psalm 36:9, NASB 2020)
