Praying for the Church (Isaiah 62)
June 23, 2026
"For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet, Until her righteousness goes out like brightness,
And her salvation like a torch that is burning. The nations will see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory; And you will be called by a new name,Which the mouth of the LORD will designate."
(Isaiah 62:1–2, NASB 2020)
"On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent.
You who remind the LORD, take no rest for yourselves; And give Him no rest until He establishes
And makes Jerusalem an object of praise on the earth." (Isaiah 62:6–7, NASB 2020)
The prophet Isaiah looked Jerusalem and waited for the day when this city, through salvation, would bring glory to God. The scene he saw would surpass the glory of Jerusalem in its former prosperity. The chosen people living there would decorate the roads, build up the highway, and raise a banner for the nations. Although Jerusalem had already become a crown of beauty in God's hand, Isaiah did not lower his hands in prayer. Instead, he interceded for the city and led its people to stand watch together.
"The True Jesus Church is the only saved church ." This is the common consensus by all of us. Yet the church is made up of people, and it needs continual repair and cleansing in order to function well. Prophet Isaiah gives us a wonderful example: to pray to God for the holy city. Today, as members of the true church that will receive salvation in the last days, we are not only recipients of God's salvation. We must also keep the lamp of salvation burning, shining upon believers and illuminating a dark world. Therefore, our prayers must never decrease.
Kneeling in prayer is one of the first lessons we learn in worship. From praying about the small matters of daily life to interceding for others, prayer is part of our spiritual learning. In this chapter, Isaiah's intercession was for God's salvation and for the glory of God's kingdom. Can we also be like Isaiah, praying for the church and for the proclamation of the saving gospel?
"Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth:
Say to the daughter of Zion,
'Behold, your salvation is coming;
Behold His reward is with Him, and His compensation before Him.'
And they will call them, 'The holy people,The redeemed of the LORD'; And you will be called, 'Sought Out, A City Not Abandoned.'" (Isaiah 62:11–12, NASB 2020)
In the end, both the chosen people and the prophet witnessed the restoration of this glorious city. It is like the true church today. We do not merely enjoy God's salvation; we must continually pray for the truth and salvation of the church. As long as we persist in praying for the church, we too will ultimately receive God's reward.
"Get yourself up on a high mountain,
Zion, bearer of good news; Raise your voice forcefully,
Jerusalem, bearer of good news. Raise it up, do not fear.
Say to the cities of Judah, 'Here is your God!' Behold, the Lord GOD will come with might,With His arm ruling for Him.
Behold, His reward is with Him, And His compensation before Him." (Isaiah 40:9–10, NASB 2020)
