Stand Up! Just Preach God’s Word (Ezekiel 2)

August 25, 2026

"Now you, son of man, listen to what I am speaking to you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you." Then I looked, and behold, a hand was extended to me; and behold, a scroll was in it. When He spread it out before me, it was written on the front and back, and written on it were songs of mourning, sighing, and woe. (Ezekiel 2:8-10)

Prophet Ezekiel was born into a priestly family in 621 BC. His upbringing coincided with the period of religious reformation and revival under King Josiah, when God's word was read aloud under the king's leadership for all the people of Judah to understand, both small and great (cf. 2 Kings 23:1-3), with Ezekiel among them. However, this good era did not last long. After King Josiah passed away in 609 BC, the three succeeding final kings all rebelled with hardened hearts and refused to listen to the warnings preached by Prophet Jeremiah.Eventually, the punishment prophesied by God upon the Kingdom of Judah came to pass. At the age of 25, Prophet Ezekiel was taken captive by the Chebar River during the second Babylonian invasion; five years later, he was called to serve as a prophet to the captives in Babylon. Following the vision in Chapter 1 of the "four wheels, four living creatures, and the glory of God," this chapter continues with the prophet receiving his mission of sending: "Preach the message that comes from God."

He said to me, "Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak with you!" As He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me. ... "I am sending you to the sons of Israel, to a rebellious people..." "I am sending you to them who are stubborn and obstinate children, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD.' As for them, whether they listen or not—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them." (cf. Ezekiel 2:1-5)

When the glorious appearance of God was revealed, Prophet Ezekiel had already fallen on his face (Ezekiel 1:28), recognizing human weakness. Yet at this moment, the indwelling of God's Spirit added strength to enable him to stand—just as the name "Ezekiel" means in Hebrew: "God will strengthen." Whether the rebellious house listens or fails to listen is no longer the key point; the prophet's responsibility lies in fulfilling God's commission (Ezekiel 2:5) and being strong and courageous through the help of the Holy Spirit to be God's witness (Acts 1:8).

but at the proper time revealed His word in the proclamation, with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior; (Titus 1:3)

During his youth, Prophet Ezekiel grew up in an environment abundant in spiritual food, which mirrors the current state of the True Jesus Church in Taiwan today. With the Holy Spirit moving in Taiwan for 100 years, He has left behind bountiful spiritual food and a complete heritage of religious education. The gospel of the kingdom of heaven is no longer hidden. God guides us all the way through the power of the Holy Spirit to "be not afraid, just preach!"—proclaiming salvation to diligently fulfill our commission.

but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing people, but God who examines our hearts. (1 Thessalonians 2:4)
