Relying on Falsehood Will Result in Emptiness (Isaiah 47)
June 8, 2026
Come down and sit in the dust,
O virgin daughter of Babylon;
Sit on the ground without a throne,
O daughter of the Chaldeans!
For you shall no longer be called tender and delicate.
(Isaiah 47:1, NASB)
On this day, the ones who consider themselves beautiful and strong will fall from the high places of Babylon, because being prideful and self-sustaining will result in God’s judgment. Babylon says in its heart: "only me, and other than me there is no other". This leads people to think about the first of Ten commandment: “I am the Lord your God, You shall have no other gods before Me.” Babylon’s level of pride placed the self higher than the place of God, thinking it can forever sit securely, yet not knowing “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.” (Proverbs 16:18, NASB) The true controller of everything in the universe is God, no matter how strong the country, how successful the life, if not for Him, everything may fail in an instant. We in our lives will feel like everything is smooth as wind and smooth as water at times, even experiencing small blessings out of expectations, causing us to become full of ourselves when we reach a little bit of achievement, slowly becoming lost in the process of chasing after achievements. Do not forget that every blessing comes from God, and a true stable life is not established on the success of your status and capacities, but rather building on top of the Fear of God and humility within the heart.
You plan a lot, therefore you’re tired. You are wearied with your many counsels;
Let now the astrologers,
Those who prophesy by the stars,
Those who predict by the new moons,
Stand up and save you from what will come upon you.
So have those become to you with whom you have labored,
Those who have done business with you from your youth;
Each has wandered in his own way;
There is no one to save you.
(Isaiah 47:13; 15, NASB)
When people think they can control everything, ultimately toil from planning will lose their purpose.
Many plans are in a person’s heart,
But the advice of the Lord will stand.
(Proverbs 19:21, NASB)
People calculate, plan, and try to use personal ways to control the outcome, like thinking through asking Buddha, counting life things,
through fortune-telling, changing their names to change lives, or thinking that organizing finances through planning will result in financial freedom, gaining stability and peace in the latter life, but have you thought what is the point even if you win in life? In society receiving praise from people, showing off, but in the spirit being abandoned by God. Is this still considered truly winning in life?
Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” (Jacob 4:14-15, NASB)
Human life is like a flashing puff of smoke, gone in an instant, nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. Worldly successes and titles, as well as splendid banquets and entertainments cannot be kept. It cannot leave with you at the end of life. God’s ways are higher than human ways. God created all creatures, making everything perfect in His time. In this slow process of life, we must learn how to trust and obey, not calculate our next steps and plan to chase after power and titles. Giving the lmain decision power to God, leaning on His blessings for us that gives us peace and blessings, living in humility all our days.
The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace,
Because he trusts in You.
Trust in the Lord forever,
For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.
(Isaiah 26:3-4, NASB)
